“Imagine” Capital Campaign
What is the “Imagine” Campaign?
In 2006, when our church leaders determined that we must build a new church facility, the Imagine campaign was born. It’s what’s called a “capital campaign,” and the goal is to raise funds to pay for the land on which we will build. The remainder of what it will take to build the facility will be mortgaged just as many of us have done with our homes. We make a down payment and mortgage the rest.
The Bible says “no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God will do for those who love him.” If there’s one thing we can say about the good folks at Medway United Methodist Church, it’s that they love God. And because of that, it’s impossible to really imagine what God has in store for us, but it sure is fun to try. That’s why we named this campaign “Imagine What God Will Do.”
What will the building look like?

The picture you see above is presented simply as an illustration of the “kind” of building we’re envisioning. Our building will be simple in style, both inside and out. It’ll be so versatile that we’ll be able to hold worship services for 250 people at 11:30 and turn around and host a youth basketball game at 2:00. It’ll have plenty of room to host Sunday morning classes, small groups, and our ever-popular free breakfast. All of these things can be said for the building you see pictured below, though our building is sure to have its own identity, and it may look considerably different.
Our new facility will also be expandable. For instance, five or ten years down the road, if we need to add on a worship center or an education wing, we’ll have plenty of room to do that and this new building will be designed to accommodate such additions.
Why are we building right now?
Sunday morning attendance at Medway is more than four times what it was in 2004! To accommodate this growth, we’ve gone from holding one service to holding three services every weekend. While the sanctuary can withstand a limited amount of continued growth, we’re busting at the seams in almost every way. We’re out of parking and classroom space, and there’s simply no more room to start additional ministries that benefit the local community such as the Seeds of Hope food pantry and the clothes closet.
Rest assured, the current facility will remain a vital part of our ongoing mission, ministry, and heritage. Its location next to the school makes it ideal for meetings, our Clubhouse after-school ministry, and expansion of our food pantry and clothes closet. Our facility currently has groups meeting every night of the week. We need to plan for continued growth in all areas and to utilize all available space as we grow.
How can I get involved?
Pray – God works through us. It’s been that way all along. It wasn’t the people or the pastor or the free breakfast in the morning that caused Medway to grow at such a rapid pace. It was God’s grace being poured out on people who were willing to serve him. We believe that He will continue to bless Medway United Methodist Church as long as we are faithful to Him and continue to talk to Him through our prayers.
Make a financial commitment – At Medway, we believe that giving is simply another way that we grow closer to God. The Imagine Campaign offers us a chance to do just that. When we give out of love for God, and for what the church has done in each of our lives, it will help us grow closer to God and there’s no doubt that God will bless us in unimaginable ways in return for our faithfulness and for trusting in Him to provide.
Spread the word – In today’s world, we don’t like to talk about money with other people, even in church, but the Bible talks about money issues more than any other subject. As devoted followers of Christ, it’s our duty to not be afraid of this subject. Talk about what giving has done in your life to your small group members. Talk about it with the couple sitting next to you in the pew before service begins. Talk about it with your children. Giving should be a blessing, not a burden. When we truly believe that, there will be no reason not to want to spread the word.
Invite others – Medway has grown by leaps and bounds over the past three years. If this growth continues, the total cost of the relocation inevitably will be spread out over many more people, offering a greater chance for success. Of course we’re not asking you to invite someone simply to help the church meet its financial goals. We invite others so that they can experience and get to know our loving God. With so many exciting things happening right now, there are plenty of reasons to invite your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
